Senior doctors have advised medical students, interns and resident doctors to imbibe the power of concentration from Swami Vivekananda whose birth anniversary was celebrated by National Medicos Organization on January 12,2019 in Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College.

“One of the important messages of Swami Vivekananda that can be imbibed by all medical students as well as practicing doctors is the power or ability to focus. The ability to focus, or concentration, is of paramount importance in the medical field,”  said Prof Anirban Hom Choudhuri, ICU In-Charge, GB Pant Hospital, Delhi.

“Any shift or deviation from concentration can affect the health of the patient which may go unnoticed,” said Dr Choudhari.

Dr Choudhari said that Swami Vivekananda’s concentration was such that he finished the reading of volumes of books within a day and returned them to the library in Meerut, UP.

The librarian wondered how he could read these books in such a short span of time and returned them. To ascertain if could read the books or not, the librarian asked him what he had read. Vivekananda not only told what he read, but also revealed the page number. This was the power of concentration of that man. This power of concentration for medicos is second to none.

Dr Rakshit Garg, CMO, LNJP, Delhi, said, “For us, well being and welfare of patients depends on our focus. But it requires having good mental, physical, social and spiritual health. If Swami Vivekananda’s deep focus is imbibed by medical students, it can have positive impact on health of patients. This can be also imbibed by Yoga meditation. Focus is tough but very crucial.”
