Attack on doctors in Kolkata: All India healthcare shutdown in offing?

NEW DELHI : Health services across the country may be heading for a total shutdown as the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) India and Resident Doctors Association-AIIMS-Delhi may join a protest called by the junior doctors in NRS Medical College Kolkata over the brutal attack on their colleagues.

The resident doctors are seeking immediate arrest of the culprits in a brutal inhuman incident which took place in Kolkata in which a mob of 200 people tried to kill two resident doctors.

Dr Sumedh Sandanshiv, president, FORDA said, “We will be submitting a detailed report on this violence to the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. And then will decide on a total shutdown of all healthcare services across the country.”

Dr Sandanshiv has requested all medical colleges and hospitals of India to participate in the protest and, if needed, they will shut down all healthcare services of the country till the demands are met.

The doctors have said, “We demand immediate arrest of all the perpetrators by identifying the attackers from CCTV in the hospital and social media videos. They should be booked under IPC Sections.”
