Delhi: BLK Hospital introduces South Asia's most advanced MRI

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI:
BLK Super Specialty Hospital, Delhi, has introduced South Asia’s first Signa Artist Wide Bore 96 Channel Digital MRI system.

This latest technology delivers a new level of clinical performance with additional research-focused capabilities, useful for Neurology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics and Oncology.

The new system has a wider bore of 70 CM as compared to earlier 60 CM wide MRI machines. The extra 10 CM bore might ease patient’s concerns regarding anxiety with tight space and hence reduces claustrophobia.

The MRI machine is also equipped with a glass which plays songs, YouTube videos, and movies to further decrease the fear in the mind of patients caused by the idea of going inside it. Also, feet first scanning is available for all body parts and that helps in making the procedure less claustrophobic for some patients as the upper part of the body will still be out of the MRI machine.

Dr Prem Kumar Ganesan, Director and HOD, Radiology and Imaging, BLK Hospital, claimed that this new MRI machine will significantly reduce the time taken for a normal brain scan.

“A brain scan with the magic sequence can be done in five minutes which would have traditionally taken at least 20 minutes,” he further claimed.

“As a standard bio marker in oncology diffusion imaging plays a critical role in cancer detection and staging, the whole-body diffusion can be done in 20 minutes which is a major achievement. Also, the new technology uses intelligent quantitative solutions to automatically detect and correct distortion, artifacts and motion,” Dr Ganesan added.
