Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey has said that there is no better healthcare scheme than Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana. It is a game changer scheme as it provides free healthcare up to Rs 5 lakh to more than 10 crore poor families translating into some 50 crore people.

On the sidelines of a Worldwide Achievers Healthcare Award Function in New Delhi, Mr Choubey told DTMT: “There was no one to look after the poor who used to fall ill and could not afford the treatment in the corporate or private hospitals. This government has given him hope. This might be the first time in India and the world that a government is providing treatment up to Rs 5 lakh free to more than  10 crore families.”

“Under this scheme, 1.5 lakh health sub centers which are in dilapidated condition will be converted into wellness centers by 2022. This is being hailed across the world as it is a revolutionary step. We have also assured affordable preventive, progressive, promotive and qualitative healthcare to the poor based on the National Health Policy, 2017,” said the minister.

“We have reduced the prices of cancer medicines by upto 90%. We have also opened three thousand Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India to provide affordable medicines. We are also providing affordable medicines through Amrit Stores,” explained the minister.

The minister urged youngsters to adopt Yoga to prevent non-communicable diseases.
