NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old Swiggy executive out delivering food, who saved 10 lives from a massive fire at a Mumbai hospital, has been honored with a reward of Rs one lakh by the Union minister of state for labour and employment Santosh Gangwar in New Delhi.

Gangwar said, “Siddrameshwar Humanabade continued his selfless service for rescuing the victims until he started feeling uncomfortable due to inhaling toxic gases due to the fire. “

“In recognition of his courage, selfless nature and missionary zeal, I am pleased to reward Siddrameshwar a sum of Rupees One lakh,” he added.

The Minister said that Siddrameshwar, even though not an employee of ESIC, has set an example for the whole ESIC team working in Hospitals and other units of ESIC and to the country as a whole in times of such crises.

On December 17, 2018, Humanabade was passing by when he saw smoke billowing out from the upper floors of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Kamgar Hospital. He left his bike and asked the firemen if he could join them in rescuing patients. After a nod from authorities, the food delivery boy reached the fourth floor of the building with the help of the fire brigade's ladder and rescued some stranded patients and visitors.

Braving the dense smoke that engulfed the area, the food delivery boy managed to bring 10 patients out to safety in two hours. Humanabade choked on the smoke and was admitted at the Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.
