Disciplinary action against J-K doctor over Facebook post

The Jammu & Kashmir government has ordered disciplinary action against Dr Amit Kumar, DM student in Cardiology Department at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar, for writing objectionable comments on social media in connection with the Pulwama terror attack.

An order issued by SKIMS on February 17, 2019, states that Dr Amit Kumar , DM student, Cardiology Department, is attached to the office of registrar (Academics) with immediate effect and FIR be lodged against the doctor for investigating the matter further.

The order reads: “Whereas the RDA of SKIMS made a representation through its president on February 16, 2019, on this account and also various reports from print and electronic media.”

In his apology Dr Amit Kumar said, “I, Dr Amir Kumar, DM resident, SKIMS, was moved by emotion and posted status on Face book messenger which hurt the sentiment of my SKIMS colleagues, SKIMS staff, faculty and people of Kashmir. I regret for my mistake and apologise to all of you and promise not to post such stuff in future.”
