Malnutrition is still a challenge which needs attention, NITI Ayyog member (Health), Dr Vinod K Paul, said and stressed the need for creating a people's movement to ensure proper nutrition for every household in the country for their survival and healthy development.

He said this while speaking at a National Workshop to Promote Healthy Diets from Local Food Systems in New Delhi on February 20, 2019. CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant was also present at the inaugural function.

Highlighting the Poshan Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narender Modi, he said the Government has finalized ten themes for percolating and penetrating Pan-India as a people's movement with a focus on 117 inspirational districts.

"We should ensure that every member of each household should consume a healthy diet and no child should be malnourished ," he said while making an appeal to create a 'Jan Andolan' for nutrition and contribute to ensuring survival and healthy development of every newborn.

The NITI Ayyog member asserted that just like we eradicated polio from India, we will jointly eradicate malnutrition also.

The workshop seeks to arrive at region-wise action plans involving State Governments and Nutrition/Agriculture Colleges to systematically work together to promote healthy diets as part of POSHAN Abhiyaan - Jan Andolan.
