Unpaid salary: Total strike in Delhi hospital from May 20

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI:
Resident doctors at North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s Hindu Rao Hospital have declared a complete shutdown from May 20, 2019, as talks with the Municipal Commissioner for payment of their 3 months' unpaid salary have failed.

The announcement came after talks with additional commissioner of the North MCD to resolve the issue ended without agreement.

The President of the RDA, Dr Rahul Choudhary, has urged doctors to have the shutdown to force the hospital to halt patient-care services.

The RDA members said the association had made a final talk with the authority which failed as the authorities cited severe fund crunch in the corporation.

“Our meeting with the additional commissioner of North MCD failed. Now, we have decided to have complete shutdown of the hospital from Monday,” Dr Sanjeev Choudhary, General Secretary of RDA, told DTMT.

He added that doctors called off the 3-hours strike at the hospital from May 17 evening to May 19, 2019, night.

The doctors were on 3-hour pen down strike for the second day on May 17, 2019. After threatening mass suicide, the ACP of the area, accompanied by a large police force and officials of the North MCD, was deputed in the hospital to prevent any such mass suicide.
