Member of the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) and the Delhi Medical Association (DMA), Dr Harish Gupta, has been elected by the DMC to the Medical Advisory Council of National Medical Commission (NMC) under Clause 11(1) (e) of the National Commission Act-2019.

Dr Gupta, who has also been past present of the DMA, will represent Delhi in the Medical Advisory Council of the NMC. The advisory council will advise the commission on the functioning of the NMC.

Dr Gupta is a practicing surgeon in Rohtas Nagar area of East Delhi. He has been member of DMC for the last four years.

Dr Girish Tyagi, Registrar, DMC, said: “Two members, including Dr Harish Gupta and Dr NK Singh of DMC, contested to be the member of advisory council of the NMC. There was election to elect one of them. 20 members of the DMC participated in the election. Dr Harish Gupta got fifteen votes while Dr NK Singh could garner five votes. "

It may be noted that Dr Gupta has on several occasions backed the central government for bringing the NMC Act. He said that the NMC will ensure transparency in medical education and profession in the country.
