Adenosylcobalamine

Adenosylcobalamin is used for the treatment of Vitamin b12 deficiencies, Fish tapeworm infestation, Vitamin b12 deficiency, Pernicious anemia, Gluten enteropathy or sprue, Small bowel bacterial overgrowth and other conditions.

Indications

1.Peripheral neuropathie 2.Megaloblastic anaemia caused by vit B12 deficiency


Dosage

1.Adult: PO Peripheral neuropathies 1,500 mcg/day in 3 divided doses 2.IV/IM Peripheral neuropathies 500 mcg/day 3 times/w 3.Megaloblastic anaemia caused by vit B12 deficiency 500 mcg/day 3 times/wk for about 2 mth. Maintenance: 500 mcg 1-3 monthly.


Contra-Indications

Allergic to adenosylcobalamin.


Special Precautions

Inform your doctor in these situations- Pregnant and breastfeeding women Impaired kidney or liver function Leber’s disease Iron and folic acid deficiency along with vitamin B1 deficiency


Side Effects

Headache, Heart failure, Polycythemia vera, Mild transient diarrhea, Itching, and transitory exanthema.
