Melatonin

Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain that regulates sleep-wake cycles. As a supplement, it is commonly used to treat sleep disorders such as insomnia and jet lag.

Indications

-Insomnia -Jet lag -Shift work sleep disorder -Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) -Sleep disorders in children with developmental disorders


Dosage

-Adults: 0.5 mg to 5 mg once daily, taken 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime. -Children: Consult a pediatrician for appropriate dosage. -Elderly: Lower doses recommended, starting from 0.5 mg.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to melatonin or any of the product's ingredients. -Autoimmune diseases -Pregnancy and lactation (consult a healthcare provider)


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with depression, diabetes, or seizure disorders. -Avoid alcohol consumption when taking melatonin. -Consult a healthcare provider before use in children and adolescents.
