5-AMINOSALICYLIC ACID
It inhibits P.G. synthesis and has been found experimentally to reduce the secretory effect of enterotoxins.Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s colitis or ileocolitis.
1200mg-2400 mg daily in div. doses.
In children Hypesensitivity to salicylates.
Pregnancy, proteinuria or raised blood urea, renal impairment.
Headache, G.I. disturbances.
Should not be given with lactulose or other pH -lowering drugs which prevent release of the drug.
