Amlodipine and Lisinopril

Thru the crossover part of the learning there was an important additional blood pressure-lowering effect of the combination compared with either amlodipine or lisinopril alone. Finally, the blood pressure response to amlodipine tended to be associated with the severity of hypertension.

Indications

Mild to moderate hypertension, hypertension not responding to monotherapy with ACE inhibitors or calcium channel blockers.


Dosage

One tablet daily. May be increased to two tablets daily


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to either component. History of angioedema related to previous treatment with an ACE inhibitor. Pregnancy.


Special Precautions

Hepatic impairment, renal impairment, congestive heart failure. Paediatrics: Safety has not been established. Pregnancy: Can cause injury and death to the developing foetus. Lactation: Discontinue nursing during treatment.


Side Effects

Angioneurotic edema with ACE inhibitors. Nausea, headache, dizziness, cough, diarrhoea, fatigue, rash, palpitations, chest pain and asthenia.


Drug Interactions

Diuretics causes excessive reduction of blood pressure. Lisinopril attenuates potassium loss caused by thiazide-type diuretics., lithium toxicity, indomethacin may reduce the antihypertensive efficacy of Lisinopril
