Andrographolide

Andrographolide is the active constituent in kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata). As per the Ayurvedic System of Medicine, it is used to treat hepatitis and acts as an antidote for snake bites. It possesses anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, carminative, hepatoprotective, anticancer, cardioprotective, antibiotic, and immunostimulant properties.

Indications

Snake-bites, diabetes, fever, hypertension, diarrhoea, acidity, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, ulcers, arthritis, cancer, and respiratory tract infections.


Contra-Indications

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. It is also unsafe for patients with auto-immune diseases, bleeding disorders, and hypotension.
