Apremilast

Apremilast

Apremilast, is an analog of thalidomide, acts as a selective inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) and inhibits spontaneous production of TNF-alpha from human rheumatoid synovial cells.

Indications

Adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis, moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy.


Dosage

Oral; 10-30 mg vary according to initial or maintenance dose.


Contra-Indications

Known hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Paediatric: Data not sufficient. Pregnancy: Category C. Lactation: Data not sufficient. Elderly: use with caution


Side Effects

Diarrhea,Nausea,Headache, Upper respiratory tract infection, Vomiting, Nasopharyngitis,Abdominal pain upper, depression.


Drug Interactions

Strong CYP450 inducers such as rifampicin.
