DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE

DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE

It is a centrally acting analgesic which provides effective relief in all musculo skeletal pains of varying severity.

Indications

Low back pain,chest pain,severe headache,bodyache,toothache,myalgias, neuralgias.


Dosage

60 mg-120 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses


Contra-Indications

Pregnancy, children below 12 yrs, gross hepatic damage.


Special Precautions

Driving, operating heavy machinery, alcohol, C.N.S. additive effects with tranquilizers, sedatives, hypnotics & other C.N.S. depressants.


Side Effects

Sedation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness.


Drug Interactions

Alcohol & CNS depressants potentiate effect of dextropropoxyphene. Inhibits liver metabolism of benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, carbamazepine, phenytoin and warfarin. Decreased efficacy in heavy smokers.
