DOTHIEPIN HCL
Depression, depression associated with anxiety.
Adults: Initially 75 mg daily in divided doses or single dose at night increasing to 150 mg daily. Elderly: 50-75 mg daily initially. Increase dose with caution and close supervision. Not recommended for children. Maint : 150 mg as a single dose at night.
Contra-Indications are same as that for Imipramine.
Special Precautions are same as that for Imipramine.
Ventricular fibrillation and renal failure, drowsiness, blurred vision, sweatig, palpitation, tremors and skin rash, bone marrow depression and agranulocytosis.
MAOIs potentiate action hence should not be given concurrently or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs. Cigarette smoking enhances the metabolism. Reduces the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs. Barbiturates reduces antidepressant effect of dothiepin.Diuretics may lead to hypotension.
