Eslicarbazepine

Eslicarbazepine acetate (BIA2-093) is an antiepileptic drug. It is a prodrug wihich is activated to eslicarbazepine(s-licarbazepine), an active metabolite of oxcarbazepine

Indications

Partial onset seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults.


Dosage

Oral; 400mg once daily for one to two weeks then 800mg once daily. Based on individual response the dose may be increased to 1200mg once daily.

Hypersensitivity


Special Precautions

Paediatric: safety below 18 years not established Lactation : Excreted in milk


Side Effects

Dizziness, Somnolence, headache, diplopia, nausea and abnormal coordination.
