Fimasartan

Fimasartan

-Fimasartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used in the management of hypertension. It works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, thereby relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. -Fimasartan is a biochemical derivative of losartan in which the imidazole ring has been replaced. This change provides higher potency and longer duration of action to this molecule. It is Angiotensin receptor blocker which selectively inhibit angiotensin II by competitive antagonism of the angiotensin receptors at AT1 site.

Indications

-Fimasartan is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. -Hypertension

Dosage

-The recommended dosage of fimasartan may vary depending on individual patient characteristics. It is typically administered once daily. The healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dose based on the patient's medical history and response to treatment. -oral; 60mg to 120 mg per day

Contra-Indications

-Fimasartan is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and in patients with severe hepatic impairment. -Hypersensitivity

Special Precautions

-Patients with renal impairment should be monitored closely. -Use caution in patients with a history of angioedema associated with previous treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. -Hypotension may occur in patients with volume depletion; correct volume status before initiating fimasartan. -Fimasartan may cause dizziness; caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. Paediatric: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established Pregnancy: It can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. If it is used during pregnancy or if the patient becomes pregnant while taking, the patient should be apprised of the potential hazard to the fetus Lactation: Breastfeeding is not recommended when mother is on fimasartan. Elderly: Use with caution

Patients should seek medical attention if they experience severe or persistent side effects. -Headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea, upper abdominal pain, increased ALI, increased AST, thrombocytopenia, increased CPK blood

Drug Interactions

-Concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may increase the risk of hyperkalemia. -Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may reduce the antihypertensive effect of fimasartan. -Fimasartan may enhance the hypotensive effects of other antihypertensive agents. -Other renin inhibitors, like aliskiren hypertensive drugs.
