LOPINAVIR

Lopinavir is an antiretroviral medication used in combination with ritonavir to treat and manage HIV-1 infection. It is a protease inhibitor that works by inhibiting the protease enzyme, which is essential for the HIV virus to replicate.

Indications

Lopinavir is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents in adults and pediatric patients.


Dosage

-Adults: The recommended dosage is 400 mg of Lopinavir co-administered with 100 mg of Ritonavir twice daily. -Pediatrics: Dosage varies based on body weight and age. Consult the prescribing information for specific dosing guidelines.


Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to Lopinavir, Ritonavir, or any of the excipients. -Concurrent use with drugs that are highly dependent on CYP3A for clearance and for which elevated plasma concentrations are associated with serious and/or life-threatening events.


Special Precautions

-Monitor liver function in patients with preexisting hepatic dysfunction. -Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis. -Potential for drug interactions; assess all medications the patient is taking.
