LORATADINE

It is (H1) receptor antagonist, penetrates very poorly into the central system, hence is devoid of CNS depressant effects. Structurally it is related to azatadine. Loratadine also suppresses mast cell mediator release.

Indications

Allergic rhinitis, acute coryza, allergic dermatological disorders.

Dosage

10 mg nce daily. 6-12yrs. 5-10mg once a day.

Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Paediatrics: Not recommended in children under 2 yrs. Pregnancy: Should not be used. Lactation: The drug passes into breast milk. Elderly: No special problem.

Side Effects

Nausea, fatigue, headache.

Drug Interactions

Ketoconazole and erythromycin increases the plasma level and inhibit the metabolism.
