MERIEUX INACTIVATED RABIES VACCINE

Merieux Inactivated Rabies Vaccine is a fatal viral infection, which is usually acquired in humans from the bite of an infected animal. Nearly all deaths from rabies in humans global result from the bite of a rabid dog.

Indications

Imovax Rabies is a vaccine indicated for pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies. Imovax Rabies vaccine is appropriate for use in all age groups.


Dosage

Before unvaccinated persons should receive 5 intramuscular doses (1 mL each) of Imovax Rabies vaccine, one dose immediately after exposure and one dose 3, 7, 14, and 28 days later.


Contra-Indications

Do not administer to anyone with a known life-threatening systemic hypersensitivity reaction to any component of the vaccine.


Special Precautions

In adults and kids the vaccine should be injected into the Deloitte muscle. In infants and minor children, the anterolateral aspect of the thigh may be preferable.


Side Effects

Any effects at the injection site Headache Dizziness or light-headedness Shortness of breath or chest tightening Mild flu-like symptoms, such as high temperature or chills Muscle ache, tenderness or weakness Painful or swollen joints Nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea Stomach cramps or pain


Drug Interactions

Corticosteroids, additional immunosuppressive mediators or treatments, and immunosuppressive sicknesses can interfere with the development of active immunity and predispose the patient to developing rabies. Immunosuppressive mediators should not be administered during post-exposure therapy, unless vital for the treatment of other situations.
