Ofloxacin Eye Drops

It is an isotonic sterile, aqueous ophthalmic solution of a potent fluoroquinolone derivative with bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. Thus it finds a place in the treatment of a wide variety of external ocular infections. The primary antibacterial activity of Ofloxacin is belived to involve inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase, the enzyme responsible for introducing negative supercoils into the bacterial D.N.A.

Indications

Acute & sub-acute conjunctivitis, mucopurulent conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, bacterial corneal ulcer, bacterial keratitis & kerato-conjunctivitis, pre-operative prophylaxis in ocular surgery, external ocular infections following foreign body or injury.


Dosage

Instill 1-2 drops into affected eye(s) every 4 hrs.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Not for injection. Discontinue use if irritation persists. Paediatrics: Safety not established. Pregnancy & Lactation: Safety not established. Elderly: Safe.


Side Effects

Mild transient smarting sensation and itching.
