Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat hypertension by relaxing blood vessels. Atorvastatin is a statin used to lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol. The combination of Telmisartan with Atorvastatin is often prescribed for patients with both hypertension and high cholesterol.

Indications

-Hypertension (high blood pressure) -Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) -Cardiovascular risk reduction in patients with both hypertension and dyslipidemia


Dosage

The dosage may vary based on individual patient factors. Standard initial doses include Telmisartan 40mg/Atorvastatin 10mg or Telmisartan 80mg/Atorvastatin 20mg, taken once daily. Dosage adjustments should be made under medical supervision.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or Atorvastatin -Pregnancy and breastfeeding -Severe hepatic impairment -Concomitant use of certain drugs, such as strong CYP3A4 inhibitors


Special Precautions

-Renal impairment: Monitor renal function regularly. -Liver function: Assess liver enzymes periodically. -Hypotension: Caution in patients with low blood pressure. -Diabetes: Monitor blood glucose levels, as the combination may affect glycemic control.


Side Effects

Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious side effects are rare but may include hepatotoxicity or severe allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

-Concomitant use with certain antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, or grapefruit juice may increase Atorvastatin levels. -Co-administration with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may increase the risk of hyperkalemia with Telmisartan.
