3 tips for getting glowing skin naturally

Getting healthy glowing skin does not necessarily mean that people have to go for high-priced treatments that are often laced with various chemicals. Common household vegetables and other foodstuffs can provide a chemical-free low-cost alternative instead.

The advantage of using these natural remedies is that they can be used in most skin types without damaging the outer layer of the skin, thereby maintaining the delicate moisture balance for the skin that is paramount to looking beautiful.

Natural face packs like gram flour packs, turmeric pastes and our own Multani Mitti (fuller’s earth) have been used by women since time immemorial to obtain blemish-free skin and to look beautiful, remain extremely popular among the masses even to date.

Here is a list of common homemade remedies to treat common skin issues to look beautiful that have stood the test of time.

Use cucumber and lemon juice to treat blemishes!

Blackheads and blemishes make skin look listless and drab. To get rid of blemishes and blackheads, mix equal parts of cucumber and lemon juice, apply it on the face and leave it for 10 minutes before taking a bath. Rinse well with fresh running water. Regular use will help lighten skin tone and fade blemishes, and the best part about this treatment is that it works on all skin types.

Tomatoes reduce excess oil from the skin!

In a hot and humid country like India, most skin types can be categorised as oily skin. Here the common vegetable, tomato, can be of immense help. A high concentration of lycopene, the pigment that gives tomatoes their characteristic red colour, is a powerful antioxidant, which is believed to help protect cells from damage. Applying tomato paste for 10-15 minutes a day gives a feeling of coolness apart from having an astringent effect on the skin. For the best result, scoop up the pulp of one medium-sized tomato and apply it to the face and leave for ten to fifteen minutes before washing off with warm water. Be careful to avoid areas near the eyes!

Gram flour can lighten skin tan!

Besan, or gram flour, is a natural, moderate exfoliant used to remove dead skin cells, tan, and sunburns from time immemorial. For clean, smooth, and naturally, glowing skin, mix equal parts of gram flour and curd and make it into a paste. Apply the paste evenly to the face and neck and let sit for half an out before washing off with water and see how easily the deep-set grime gets removed along with the peeling off of dead cells, giving the face a bright look.
