Speaking to Drug Today Medical Times on the occasion of World Hypertension Day, Dr. Mittal highlighted the concerning trend of hypertension cases in children. He emphasised that stress from academic competition and the relentless pursuit of top grades often leads to hypertension, which can subsequently trigger various health issues, including kidney and heart diseases. Dr. Mittal stressed the importance of monitoring hypertension from childhood onwards to prevent long-term health complications.

According to Dr. Mittal, statistics reveal that one out of every three individuals suffers from hypertension. Shockingly, half of these individuals are unaware of their condition, while those who are aware often neglect proper medication. Dr. Mittal emphasised the significance of adhering to prescribed medication regimens to effectively manage hypertension and avoid its associated risks.

The increasing incidence of hypertension among children underscores the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures. Dr. Mittal urged parents and educators to recognize the detrimental effects of academic pressure on children's health and well-being. He advocated for a holistic approach to education that prioritizes mental and physical health alongside academic achievement.
