Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge to Kickstart World Health Assembly in Geneva

The vibrant city of Geneva is set to host the Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge, marking a healthy and spirited start to the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly. On Sunday, May 26, the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the UN family, Member States, athletes, local sports clubs, health partners, and the Geneva community, will come together to celebrate the importance of healthy lifestyles and demonstrate safe ways to conduct public events.

This inclusive event invites participants of all ages and abilities to engage in physical activities, including running, walking, or using wheelchairs, along two routes: 3 km and 4.2 km. The festivities will commence at Place des Nations with fun warm-ups starting at 09:00, followed by the official opening at 09:30.

The event aims to promote the concept of #HealthForAll by encouraging a healthy lifestyle for a healthier humanity. It seeks to raise awareness of the work and goals of WHO and other health agencies in Geneva, emphasizing the city's role as the global health capital. Additionally, the event aims to engage delegates of the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly, the United Nations family, non-State actors, and the Geneva community in a collective celebration of #HealthForAll. It also aims to showcase the strong connection between “international” and “local” Geneva.

The Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge is a free physical activity event open to everyone, featuring 3 km and 4.2 km routes around Geneva that link key health, international, and touristic landmarks. The event is designed to be inclusive, accommodating participants of all ages and abilities, with accessible routes to ensure maximum participation. Along the routes, various interactive activities will be available to engage participants.

The event is open to the general public, students and their families, WHO Member State delegations, staff from international organizations, non-governmental organizations, other World Health Assembly participants, and health advocates. To maintain the focus on health for all, participants are encouraged to avoid promoting political issues and to conduct themselves respectfully.

There are several ways to support and participate in the Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge. Schools and workplaces are encouraged to mobilize and build enthusiasm for the event. Senior leaders from organizations are invited to participate and demonstrate leadership. Teams can be formed within organizations to join the #HealthForAll movement, and families are encouraged to come together and enjoy the event, which offers something for everyone with its two distances and activities along the way.

Health for All Challenge promises to be a dynamic and engaging start to the World Health Assembly, fostering a sense of community and commitment to global health. Join us in Geneva to promote health for all and take part in this celebration of wellness and inclusivity.
