Alpha Linolenic Acid

It is naturally obtained from flaxseed, canola oil, walnuts, tofu, red meat, dairy products, and soybean oil. It possesses cardioprotective, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective activities.

Indications

High blood pressure (hypertension), arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, other cardiac conditions, and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).


Dosage

The standard dose for alpha-linolenic acid is 1 to 2 grams per day.


Contra-Indications

Kidney transplant, prostate cancer.


Special Precautions

It is recommended to consult a doctor before taking alpha-linolenic acid in pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Weight gain, stomachache, vomiting, diarrhoea, and headache.


Drug Interactions

Anticoagulant drugs, and anti-cholesterol medications (cholesterol-lowering medicines).
