Levodropropizine, Chlorpheniramine Maleate

Levodropropizine is a non-opioid cough suppressant that acts centrally in the medulla oblongata. Chlorpheniramine maleate is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine, reducing symptoms of allergic reactions such as itching, watery eyes, and sneezing.

Indications

This combination medication is indicated for the relief of cough due to respiratory tract infections and allergies.


Dosage

-Levodropropizine: Typically 60 mg three times a day. -Chlorpheniramine Maleate: Generally 4 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to levodropropizine or chlorpheniramine maleate. -Severe hypertension. -Severe liver or kidney impairment. -Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema. -Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. -May cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until effects are known.

-Drowsiness -Dizziness -Dry mouth -Nausea -Blurred vision -Constipation -Urinary retention


Drug Interactions

-Enhanced sedative effects when taken with alcohol or other CNS depressants. -May potentiate the effects of anticholinergic drugs. -Potential for increased CNS depression when taken with other medications that cause sedation.
