Oxyfedrine

It is claimed to improve myocardial metabolism so that it can sustain hypoxia better. However, its efficacy and status in coronary artery disease is not yet defined.

Indications

Angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency. Myocardial infarction.


Dosage

8-24 mg. 3 times daily before or after meals. Injection : Angina & coronary insufficiency: 4 mg I.V. 1-2 times daily Max: 3 times daily. Anginal attack : 8 mg 2-3 times daily. I.V. infusion : 0.1-0.3 mg/kg body wt. daily Maint: 4 mg. I.V. 1-2 times daily for 1-2 weeks (max: 3 times daily).


Contra-Indications

Pregnancy. Subvalvular aortic stenosis. Aortic incompetence with severe haemodynamic disturbance.


Special Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart disease, liver or kidney impairment, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.


Side Effects

Transient impairment of taste.
