Is it a good habit to sleep with a mobile lying nearby?

Once upon a time, not very long ago, people used to keep the key of the almirah under their pillow. before hitting the bed, the housewife would open the lock from her waist and keep the key beneath the pillow. Back then, both the almirah and sleep were secure.

The world has changed. People now sleep with their phones under their pillows! Even when falling asleep, the mobile is held in hand, and when waking up in the morning, the eyes immediately look for the mobile. It's practically screen time as soon as the eyes open. We have become so accustomed to our phones that even at leisure, books are left unread and familiar music can be heard from afar. The younger generation communicates with friends online, orders food, and watches chosen television shows.

The younger generation uses phones to talk with pals online, order food, and watch videos. The phone is so important to us that if it is not within reach, sleep appears to avoid us even at night!

The Dangers of Blue Light

No matter how much our phones have become a part of our daily lives, blue light is not the material for restful sleep. Melatonin is required for good sleep. Mobile phone radiation has been linked to erectile dysfunction. This causes a decrease in this hormone. As a result, the circadian rhythm of sleep is thrown off, resulting in insomnia. Along with sleep, other physiological activities are altered. Inadequate sleep causes various issues, including stress, muscle strain, headaches, and more.

What Causes Cancer?

However, the notion that cancer can be caused by mobile phone radiation was formerly widely held, but there is still no real evidence in our hands. So, does putting the phone away while sleeping make it safe and sound in terms of cancer risk? 

Not quite. The more profound the night, the more our stress hormones rise when we use the phone. As a result, mental strain builds up. The next day, mental concentration becomes difficult. It can result in stress-related disorders such as heart attacks and strokes. Furthermore, if the mobile or tablet's battery is of poor quality, the chance of physical damage from radiation is increased.

Should We Ditch Our Cell Phones?

In today's world, it appears nearly impossible to live without a phone. However, putting the phone aside before going to be is critical. The less screen time you have, the more melatonin your body produces. Let us instead follow some ground rules.

  • Put your phone on silent mode before going to bed. Disable the vibration mode.
  • Keep your phone at least two to three feet away from where you sleep.
  • Set a timer on the clock.
  • Avoid reading e-books before going to sleep. Keep them for another occasion. Instead, read a book or magazine before going to bed.
