University of Leicester and Apollo University Forge Groundbreaking Partnership in Computer Science Education

UK's University of Leicester and India's Apollo University, a part of the Apollo Hospitals Group, have forged an unprecedented partnership aimed at enhancing collaborative education and research ties. This landmark collaboration introduces a computer science program, marking a significant milestone in joint academic endeavors.

Under this innovative program, students will embark on a unique educational journey, commencing their studies with two years at Apollo University in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, India, before transitioning to the University of Leicester in the UK for their final year and graduation.

The program aims to prepare an initial cohort of 120 students, with the curriculum jointly developed and mapped between the two universities. Eligible candidates are required to achieve a minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics during their Intermediate or diploma studies, and successfully complete Class 12 or its equivalent with these subjects as majors from a recognized Board.

Upon completion of their studies at Apollo University, students will have the opportunity to specialize in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Software Engineering within the computer science program at the University of Leicester. Additionally, an articulation pathway has been established, offering enrolled students the option to pursue a one-year master’s degree in their chosen discipline. Post-course completion, eligible students will also have access to placement opportunities and post-study work visas in the UK.

Professor Henrietta O’Connor, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, expressed her excitement about the partnership, highlighting the shared vision of using education and research to drive real-world change, particularly in healthcare and data science. Professor Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, emphasized the transformative potential of the alliance, aiming to redefine higher education by creating pathways that transcend geographical constraints and foster global advancement in healthcare and technology.

This partnership builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last year between the University of Leicester and the Apollo Hospitals Group. The MOU outlined a collaborative vision in healthcare management, healthcare, and data science, leveraging research and educational opportunities to address global healthcare challenges and skills shortages in both the UK and India.
