Mess worker dies of Covid: Delhi-AIIMS RDA up in arms

 Rohit Shishodia
Delhi-AIIMS RDA has demanded the resignation of the hostel superintendent over the death of a worker in the institute’s canteen who died of Covid-19. However, the hospital is yet to come up with an official announcement of this death.

The doctors have alleged that the hostel superintendent refused to take precautionary measures, including thermal screening, sanitizer and masks, as demanded by the RDA more than a month ago to ensure mess workers are able to work safely without endangering themselves and the hospital staff.

In a letter to the AIIMS director, Dr Randeep Guleria, the RDA has stated that the hospital superintendent tried to present the death as probable cardiac arrest even in the morning review meeting. RDA-AIIMS has demanded the resignation of both the hospital superintendent and senior warden, taking moral responsibility.

"We also demand testing of all mess workers and residents by diligent contact tracing and ensure such incidents don’t repeat. We also demand appointment of a more receptive and resident friendly hostel superintendent and Sr Warden," reads the RDA letter.

The doctors’ body has also demanded compensation for the deceased mess worker.
