Cases of swine flu are increasing rapidly in Delhi, but facilities provided to patients of swine flu are miniscule in some government hospitals. Delhi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital (LBSH) does not have even a single bed reserved for patients of swine flu.

Patients requiring treatment for swine flu are referred to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital or Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital.

Dr Yogesh Kushwaha, Nodal Officer of Swine Flu, LBSH, told DTMT that there is 250% bed occupancy in LBSH, which means that more than two patients are lying on one bed, making it an acute shortage of beds.

Dr Kushwaha said that shortage of beds is one reason that there is no designated bed for patients of swine flu. He further added that if any patients come with a positive report of swine flu or requires admission, he or she is referred to GTBH or Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital.

Dr Kushwaha informed that till date no case of swine flu has been reported in LBSH.

Till date, more than 1600 cases of swine flu have been reported in different government and private hospitals in the Delhi. More than 25 people have succumbed to the deadly virus in the city.
