-Cadexomer iodine is a topical antimicrobial agent that contains iodine complexed with a water-soluble polymer, cadexomer. This formulation provides sustained release of iodine, promoting its antimicrobial activity. -Cadexomer iodine is used for cleaning wet ulcers and wounds and as an antiseptic for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.

Indications

-Cadexomer iodine is commonly used for the management of chronic wounds, such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and infected wounds. It helps to control infection, reduce inflammation, and promote wound healing. -It is used for cleaning wet ulcers and wounds and as an antiseptic for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.


Dosage

-The dosage of cadexomer iodine may vary depending on the specific wound and the healthcare professional's recommendation. Generally, it is applied topically to the affected area once daily or as directed. -Local application; Gel 0.9% iodine, Ointment 4.7% Cleaning Wet Ulcers and wounds • Spread 1/8-1/4 inch to dry sterile gauze; apply gauze on wound • No more than 50 g per application; no more than 150 g/week • Change 3 times/week or when color turns to yellow/ gray -Antiseptic for Minor Cuts, Scrapes, Burns • Apply small amount to affected area once daily to once every 8 hours


Contra-Indications

-Cadexomer iodine should be avoided in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to iodine. It is also contraindicated in patients with thyroid disorders, as excessive iodine absorption could affect thyroid function. -Iodine sensitivity, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, history of Graves' disease or nontoxic goiter , Pregnancy, lactation, Dry wounds, Breastfeeding.


Special Precautions

-Pregnant and lactating women should use cadexomer iodine cautiously, and its use should be supervised by a healthcare professional. -Avoid contact with the eyes, ears, and mucous membranes. -Cadexomer iodine may stain clothing and temporarily discolor wounds. Paediatric: Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients. Pregnancy: Data not sufficient Lactation: Data not sufficient Elderly: No overall differences in safety or effectiveness have been observed between elderly and other adult patients.


Side Effects

-Common side effects include local irritation, burning sensation, or redness at the application site. Allergic reactions are rare but possible. If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional. -Transient slight/moderate pain, Redness or swelling at application site


Drug Interactions
