Indications

Nausea and vomiting, motion sickness


Dosage

Adult: Oral, Nausea and vomiting As HCI: 50 mg up to 3 times/day. To be given 30 mins before travelling for prevention of motion sickness. IV/IM Motion sickness As lactate: 50 mg 4-6 hrly, to be started 30 mins before travelling. Post-op nausea and vomiting As lactate: 50 mg up to 3 times/day, to be started 30 mins pre-op. Max: 200 mg/24 hr.


Contra-Indications

less than 12 years


Special Precautions

Angle closure glaucoma; urinary retention; prostatic hypertrophy; electrolyte imbalances; asthma; hepatic impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy and lactation. Elderly. Children


Side Effects

CNS depression, psychomotor impairment, dry mouth, thickening of mucous secretions, blurred vision, difficult or painful urination. Occasionally, GI disturbances, palpitations and arrhythmias. Rashes and hypersensitivity reactions. Extrapyramidal effects, tremor, sleep disturbances, tinnitus, hypotension and hair loss.


Drug Interactions

Enhanced sedative effects of alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives, antipsychotics.
