Delhi-AIIMS Hosts Skill Enhancing Course on Colposcopy and Cervical Lesion Treatment

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS, New Delhi, in collaboration with AOGD Oncology Committee, organized a “Skill Enhancing Course in Colposcopy and Treatment of CIN” AOGIN INDIA CME on May 4th, 2024. This comprehensive CME aimed to delve into the practical aspects of colposcopy and the treatment of preinvasive lesions of the cervix. Attended by 70 delegates and 32 esteemed faculties from across the country, the event served as a platform for robust knowledge exchange and hands-on training.


The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Chief Guest Dr. K.K Verma, Dean Academics at AIIMS, New Delhi, Guest of Honor Dr. Kamal Buckshee, and Special Guest Dr. Archana Verma. Also gracing the occasion were Dr. Neerja Bhatla, Founder President of AOGIN INDIA and VP FOGSI, Dr. Neena Malhotra, HOD of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at AIIMS, along with Dr. Rupinder Sekhon, President of AOGIN INDIA, and Dr. Ashok Kumar, President of AOGD. Dr. Jyoti Meena and Dr. Saritha Shamsunder served as the conveners of the CME.

The program was designed to be inclusive, offering all participants a hands-on experience with various portable colposcopes and treatment modalities, including thermal ablation and LLETZ, demonstrated on models. Attendees gained insights into the nuances of these procedures, learning invaluable tips and tricks. Overall, it proved to be a rewarding and enlightening experience for all involved.

This initiative marks a significant stride towards the goal of cervical cancer elimination, aiming to bolster capacity building and provide hands-on training to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of addressing the nation's needs. There are plans to replicate similar programs in all states and union territories, ensuring widespread dissemination of knowledge and expertise in combating cervical cancer effectively.
