Delhi-AIIMS Boosts CATH Lab Capacity to Meet Rising Demand

In response to the escalating demand for critical cardiovascular and neurological procedures, AIIMS New Delhi is thrilled to announce a substantial enhancement in its CATH Lab capacity. This strategic move comes after a thorough assessment of the current patient load and the imperative for swift interventions, particularly in emergency scenarios.

Dr. (Prof.) M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, highlighted the pressing need to bridge the existing gap between the demand for CATH Lab services and the available infrastructure during deliberations with AIIMS faculty. It was evident that the current number of operational CATH Labs falls short of meeting the surging demand, resulting in prolonged waiting periods for intricate neuro and cardio procedures.

Moreover, the absence of a dedicated CATH Lab within the emergency department has contributed to delays in administering primary interventions, adversely impacting patient outcomes. Acknowledging these hurdles, AIIMS New Delhi has resolved to take proactive steps to optimize patient care.

As part of this initiative, the Cardio Neuro Centre will spearhead the augmentation of CATH Labs to align with projected requirements. This expansion aims to streamline the delivery of critical interventions and reduce waiting times, ensuring prompt access to life-saving treatments for patients.

Furthermore, a shared CATH Lab will be operationalized within the emergency department, significantly slashing the door-to-needle time for primary neuro, cardio, and other endovascular interventions. This dedicated facility will play a pivotal role in facilitating rapid and efficient emergency care, particularly during the crucial golden hour.

Dr. Rima Dada, In-Charge, Media Cell, emphasised, “The augmentation of CATH Lab capacity at AIIMS New Delhi underscores our steadfast commitment to advancing healthcare delivery and meeting the evolving needs of our patients. By investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure and specialized facilities, we remain dedicated to providing the highest standards of care and enhancing clinical outcomes.”
